The Patron Erased
I funded Archer Sloane Hale anonymously for seven years.
He climbed out of a Central Valley trailer park to A-list, and every Variety profile said the same thing — he was looking for the girl from before the fame, the one who wrote him through every winter.
The girl he found was my college roommate, Wren Selby. She had taken credit on the record.
I went to his Burbank press junket to hand him a contract that would have saved his career from the studios closing in. He had security drag me out and sneered into a livestream feed pushing to fourteen million viewers.
I didn't explain.
Archer doesn't know I never funded him out of love.
Only that his eyes, in the first photo he ever sent me, looked exactly like a dog I lost when I was sixteen.
The contract he kicked into the trash was in another young man's hands by morning.
